Who can enter?
The photo contest is strictly for amateur photographers who do not make more
than 5% of their income from photography. Any resident of Wisconsin or upper
Michigan is eligible, except employees of Journal Communications, their
subsidiaries, Mike Crivello¹s, members of their immediate households and
anyone engaged in the manufacture, sales, commercial finishing or commercial
use of photographic goods.
What photos and videos are eligible?
Black-and-White and color pictures as well as video taken after January 1,
2008 but before January 1, 2009, are eligible. Up to four photos and two
videos per person may be entered.
What are the technical requirements?
Photographs must be entered as digital files. Digital files must be JPEG
format at 200 DPI and a minimum file size of 2 megabytes and a maximum file
size of 5 megabytes. Because the contest is all digital, prints will not be
accepted. No composites or digitally altered photos. Videos are limited to
30 megabytes in size and 5 minutes in length. Contestants may submit up to
two videos. Videos may be uploaded as Windows Media, MPEG, QuickTime, Flash
or AVI files. We cannot accept videos that are sent via the mail or email.
Photography entries can only be submitted by email or uploaded directly to
the website. CD's will not be accepted.
How should entries be labeled?
Online and email entries must include name, address, city, state, zip code,
phone number, and title of photo. No entries will be accepted without this
information. Submitting an entry online or by email signifies that you have
read and agree to all terms of the contest.
What about getting consent?
Be sure you know the names and addresses of any recognizable people in your
photo. Photos may be disqualified from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Digital Snapshot Award Contest if the consent of recognizable people cannot
be obtained.
Are there certain agreements?
By entering, you, as a contestant, agree that the Journal Sentinel Inc. may
publish your photo(s) and video(s) in Journal Sentinel Inc. publications and
websites.
How is judging done?
A panel of three judges will select winners in the Milwaukee Journal
Sentinel Digital Snapshot Award Contest. All entries will be judged on
general interest and appeal. Photographic quality, while important, will not
be the deciding factor. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel will be responsible for
final determination of winning photos and videos.
Will winners be announced?
Winners will be announced in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in late July.
There will be an awards ceremony for all of the winners and winning photos
and videos will be on display at the Wisconsin State Fair.
Is there an entry fee?
No.
What is the deadline for entering?
All entries must be received at Milwaukee Journal Sentinel by Friday, June
26, 2009. Submitting an entry online or email signifies that you have read
and agree to all terms of the contest. For more information, call Kelli at
